General Description
Hard Cut 5258 Light is the latest in a long line of high quality, multi-purpose straight oils from Hangsterfer’s Laboratories. This low viscosity Hard Cut is formulated for maximum performance during high precision applications. Offering superior antiweld and antiwear lubrication for the tool-workpiece interface as well as the machine tool’s moving parts, Hard Cut 5258 Light provides benefits in productivity and equipment life. The “8” has been blended in with the standard Hard Cut 525 Light in order to double the synthetic fraction of additives in the product. This provides for additional extreme pressure protection during severe applications. Hard Cut 5258 Light virtually eliminates smoke and tackiness. The non-irritating and non-toxic formulation along with its pleasant odor makes this product both operator and machine friendly.

Application

Hard Cut 5258 Light can be used effectively in many applications. Its low viscosity makes it easier to pump and deliver to the tool-workpiece interface. The high level of extreme pressure additives makes it especially useful for Swiss style screw machines, high speed machining and turning centers, coolant through tooling applications, gundrilling, deep hole drilling, tapping and thread milling. Hard Cut is the product of choice for the aerospace, electronic and medical component industries.

Materials

The purpose of Hard Cut 5258 Light is versatility as it can be used safely on all materials. Due to its traditional extreme pressure additives and advanced synthetic ingredients, Hard Cut 5258 Light is recommended when materials include stainless steels, nickel alloys, titanium, hardened steels and aerospace aluminums.

Maintenance

While straight cutting oils are not susceptible to the broad range of problems encountered with a water based fluid, regular maintenance does improve their performance and extend their life. The Hard Cut oils are designed to reject foreign contaminants, such as metal fines. If the performance of the oil begins to deteriorate, remove the oil from the machine and allow settling in a drum or settling tank for 3-7 days. Fines and contaminants will settle to the bottom. After settling return the top 80% to the clean machine. In order to get the maximum life from your oil, keep the sump free of cleaners, solvents, rust inhibitors, coolants and other contaminants, which may reduce performance.

Cleaning

All Hard Cut oils are formulated to minimize cleaning time. They are cleanable in both aqueous and solvent systems. For best results use a Hangsterfer’s Ozonic series cleaner or recommended aqueous cleaner. Both style cleaners work best at removing Hard Cuts when heated to 140°F (60°C).
